Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you . . . —John 14:27

There are times in our lives when our peace is based simply on our own ignorance. But when we are awakened to the realities of life, true inner peace is impossible unless it is received from Jesus. When our Lord speaks peace, He creates peace, because the words that He speaks are always “spirit, and they are life” (John 6:63). Have I ever received what Jesus speaks? “. . . My peace I give to you. . .”— a peace that comes from looking into His face and fully understanding and receiving His quiet contentment.

Are you severely troubled right now? Are you afraid and confused by the waves and the turbulence God sovereignly allows to enter your life? Have you left no stone of your faith unturned, yet still not found any well of peace, joy, or comfort? Does your life seem completely barren to you? Then look up and receive the quiet contentment of the Lord Jesus. Reflecting His peace is proof that you are right with God, because you are exhibiting the freedom to turn your mind to Him. If you are not right with God, you can never turn your mind anywhere but on yourself. Allowing anything to hide the face of Jesus Christ from you either causes you to become troubled or gives you a false sense of security.

With regard to the problem that is pressing in on you right now, are you “looking unto Jesus” (Hebrews 12:2) and receiving peace from Him? If so, He will be a gracious blessing of peace exhibited in and through you. But if you only try to worry your way out of the problem, you destroy His effectiveness in you, and you deserve whatever you get. We become troubled because we have not been taking Him into account. When a person confers with Jesus Christ, the confusion stops, because there is no confusion in Him. Lay everything out before Him, and when you are faced with difficulty, bereavement, and sorrow, listen to Him say, “Let not your heart be troubled . . .” (John 14:27).

How to fulfill your God-given assignment in life? In my devotional email today this is what the author shares:

We will need God’s favour! Look at Joseph how did he go from being a lowly inmate to running the whole prison system? ‘… In Genesis 39:21-23 it says, “The Lord was with Joseph… and He gave him favour in the sight of the keeper of the prison… whatever he did, the Lord made it prospe.” Why did King Ahasuerus choose a Jewish slave girl named Esther to be his queen? ‘… She obtained grace and favour in his sight… so he set the royal crown upon her head… -Esther 2:17. How did Samuel go from being a custodian in the temple to being a prophetic voice of the nation? ‘… Samuel grew… in favour both with the Lord and men’ -1 Samuel 2:26.

What did all these favoured people have in common? First, they gave their best effort. They excelled at what God gave them to do, and when the time came He promoted them. Second, they put others first. David served King Saul even though he was a ruthless boss. Ruth worked to support her widowed mother-in-law Naomi, while Naomi’s other daughter-in-law Orpah thought only of herself. Third, they sought guidance and had a teachable spirit. God answered Ruth’s request by giving her Naomi, the right mentor, Boaz, the right boss, and making sure she got into the right field-Ruth 2:2-3. God’s favour will connect you to the right people and get you to the right place. When your chosen field is the field God has chosen for you, you can’t help but be blessed in it. No, you won’t be exempt from trials, but you’ll succeed in what you’re called to do.

Are you familiar with this story?

A mouse looked out through a crack in a farmhouse wall and was distraught to discover a mousetrap. When he went to tell his buddies, the chicken said, ‘Sorry, pal, not my problem.’ The pig said, ‘I’ll pray for you.’ The cow was busy and said, ‘Come back later.’ Dejected, the mouse was left alone to handle his problem. That night, a poisonous snake got caught in the mousetrap and when the farmer’s wife went to investigate she got bitten. She developed a raging fever, and everyone knows you treat a fever with chicken soup. So the farmer took his axe to the barn for the main ingredient! As his wife’s condition deteriorated and neighbours gathered, he had to butcher the pig to feed them. Finally she died. So many people came to the funeral that he ended up slaughtering the cow to make dinner for them all. In the end, everybody lost!

First time i heard this was while attending Sunday service in our Church. And then i learned that this story is a favorite illustrations by most preachers and speakers. Well, that’s because it really has good moral value.

This story teaches us that we should always have a heart to help others especially those who are in deep need or trouble. Before saying somebody else’s problem has nothing to do with you, think about this first: in the Bible we are told to help the weak and encourage the fainthearted. If there’s someone’s hurting today, tomorrow it might be you! If anyone is in trouble, we could all be in trouble and everyone will suffer. So let’s remember that we need each other, each of us has a vital purpose in another person’s life.

How is your prayer life? That is the title of today’s “The Word For Today” by Bob Gass. In his message, he points out these reminders about prayer.

The place of prayer is where you meet with God to be instructed, corrected, cleansed, loved, built up and prepared to do His will. It can be anywhere, but it must be somewhere! It can be anytime, but it must be a set time. Without prayer, what do you have to draw on? You’ll work harder and harder and accomplish less and less because you’re operating in your own strength. But after you’ve prayed you’ll struggle less and accomplish more because you’re operating in God’s strength. If you’re spending hours watching television but say you’ve no time to pray, ‘It is time to seek the Lord.’ If you’re living comfortably with sins that once troubled you, ‘It is time to seek the Lord.’ If you’re speaking words of bitterness towards someone who hurt you, ‘It is time to seek the Lord.’ If having material things consumes so much of your energy that there’s none left for God and your family, ‘It is time to seek the Lord.’

If you’ve gotten this far with little prayer, inconsistent prayer, or no prayer, think how far you’ll go when you begin to pray.

Father i know it is time to seek You..help me to do your will..In Jesus name.

Have you any idea how often the people you look up to got it wrong, half right, almost right, before they got it right? Making mistakes is the unenjoyable, hard to avoid part of making progress. That’s why Paul said, ‘… It is no trouble for me to write the same things to you again, and it is a precaution for you.’(Philippians 3:1 NIV) He understood that you have to keep learning and doing it in order to get it right.

Do not compare yourself with others. The Bible says, ‘… When they measure themselves by themselves… they are not wise’ (2 Corinthians 10:12 NIV). Some of us are given five talents, some two, and some one. Not your wishes but your talents determine your potential. One-talent people who make the most of what they’ve been given get the same ‘well done’ as five-talent people. The people who get into trouble is the one who’s afraid to take the risk; their biggest fault is their unwillingness to make a mistake! Dr. John Maxwell says, ‘Your performance depends on your dedication to practice. Consistently right practice leads to consistently right play. It sharpens you. Wise people understand this, and produce the discipline to do it.’ If you want to sum up what lifts most victorious individuals above the crowd, you could do it in these four words: a little bit more. Victorious people do what’s required of them-plus a little bit more. So, the message for you today is-strive for progress, not perfection!
