Tips to have a stress free family vacation

We have a long weekend vacation this Halloween  season since Nov. 2 was declared non-working holiday. While most families will visit their beloveds in the cemetery some will grab this long vacation as an opportunity to have an out of town family vacation.

Preparing for a family vacation should be well planned to avoid hassles and make it really fun and enjoyable. It’s not easy to do it, so here are some tips on how to have a stress-free family vacation.

1) Plan in advance. Planning ahead will often save you money on all of the big vacation expenses like airfare, hotels, and even attractions. Making your plans well in advance will certainly lighten your stress load and give you more time to enjoy while on your vacation.

2) Set realistic expectations. From your expectations of your kids’ behavior to expectations of family bonding to expectations of either activities or down times, set the bar at a realistic level.  A successful family vacation might be wonderful and will hold many great memories, but it probably is not going to change your lives. Don’t expect vacation time to fix problems at home or work.

3) Leave work at home. Unless you have one of those jobs where you absolutely must maintain communication with your work, don’t take work with you, check your e-mail, or answer your cell phone.  It may take you some time when you get back to work to get back up to speed, but your family deserves your full attention while on vacation – not to mention the fact that you need time away from work as well!

4) Value your time together. Your living, sleeping, and eating arrangements may well be different.  Your family may have to sleep in one room together.  You may not be able to find a quiet place.  You may not be able to prepare food as you would at home.  Be aware of these factors going into a vacation and don’t stress out about them.  Rather, make the best of your circumstances, valuing these unique experiences and enjoying your family’s time together.

5) Relax. You cannot see everything, do everything, and experience everything in one week. Don’t even try.  Don’t plan out every minute of your vacation. Leave room in your schedule for spontaneity. Be willing to compromise on activities. On vacation, no one ever gets to do everything they want to do, but do your best to make sure that everyone in the family gets to do something that they want to do (moms and dads included!)

Missing school days

Working for 15 years in an industrial plant made me more familiar in different industrial equipments. When I was in college we have studied plant operations in our chemical engineering subjects and most of the time we’re having a hard time when it comes to operating equipments because we cannot appreciate what our professor is talking about. But when I started working and was exposed to industrial equipment it’s the only time I understand and appreciate all the lessons we have taken up in College. Hmm now I miss my school days in college. ^_^

Wedding gift

It is my cousins’ wedding next month and her request wedding gift from me is a coffee maker. She said her ‘husband to be’ loves drinking coffee and she wanted to make him happy by of course preparing a very rich in aroma coffee. Do you know where I can find the best online store for coffee makers? I already search the net but so far most of those I found were so expensive. I hope I could find a good and affordable coffee maker before the wedding day comes.

Envious

My friend told me yesterday that she’s envious with our former classmate’s sexy body. She saw her pictures in facebook and she learned that she has two kids already. Having two kids has no effect on her, she still maintained her slim figure. I wonder how she managed to do that. Me and my friend have two kids also but sad to say we’ve really grown bigger and bigger as the years past by. Hayzz, I hope I can buy fitness equipment so I could do work out at home. I really have no time to go to fitness gym since I’m a working mom.

Oh well, I hope I can find an affordable fitness equipment when we shop this weekend, SM will have a mallwide sale.Yippee!

Freebies and giveways

I found this site I Luv Giveaways! where i can get giveaways, freebies like  free product samples, coupons, and more free stuffs. However most of the freebies or product samples are for US based only.

I have a blogger friend who’s very interested  also on those free  samples but just like me she’s also not qualified  since we both live in Philippines. But she had an idea on how she can avail those freebies. She said her best friend in US is willing to collect for her the free product samples  in US and when the shipping boxes are already full of goods her friend will send those boxes here in the Philippines. Isn’t that nice? :) Well, i wish my friend and her friend in US will push through with their plan because my friend is really in need these days and those free items will be a great help for her and her family.

Breast cancer survivor's wish list

I support Breast Cancer Awareness and since we’re celebrating Breast Cancer Month i thought of sharing this article i found from The Washington Times entitled:

In celebration of Breast Cancer month — a ‘wish list’

By Cyndi Pratt, Circulation Bookeeper

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. So, I want to share some things that breast cancer patients and really, all cancer patients and those who love them need to know. We’ll call it a wish-list.

1. Cancer patients need to know that cancer is a great equalizer. It knows no boundaries; it is not prejudiced toward or against any ethnic, economic, or social structure. It doesn’t care who you are or who you know. Cancer patients are not alone in their diagnosis, treatment, or experiences.

2. Cancer patients need support. Many family members and friends tell the patient, “If you need anything, just call me.” They sincerely mean it and they want to help. But, the thing is, the patient doesn’t want to be a burden anymore than they have to be and they probably won’t call. So, what can family or friends do? Just show up — bring a dust rag, a broom and some elbow grease. Or, bring a hot meal so the cancer patient and the immediate family won’t have to cook or buy it. Call and check on the patient — you don’t have to keep them long — just see if they need something that day. . . a run to the pharmacy, pick up or drop off dry cleaning. Are you going to the grocery store? Offer to get some things for the patient so they won’t have to get out when they may not feel up to it. Send notes or cards — promising to pray — then do it!

3. Cancer patients need time to mourn. The diagnosis and treatment can be overwhelming. Friends and family need to understand that the patient’s grouchy attitude and critical remarks are not reflective on their love and concern for you, whom they deeply care for. You may have interrupted an internal dialogue or meditation about the disease, mental exercises to get past the medical issues they are facing, or just some efforts to relax amidst all the changes. Your request for missing socks or help finding misplaced papers just might be the catalyst to bring out the grouchies in the patient. You could look for the socks or the papers but Mom is usually the one to find those things because she knows to look beneath the top layer of stuff to find the misplaced items. Try it!

4. The cancer patient needs understanding. Cancer is an invasive enemy. Just the word produces fear. This enemy has wreaked havoc on an otherwise healthy body. There may not even be any symptoms or very few when the diagnosis is made. It is a shock to the mind and the emotions as the upheaval of a normal life quickly progresses to a life on the road — doctors, hospitals, clinics. Then there is the medical invasion — tests, needles, machines, strangers poking and prodding; there is a quick loss of modesty as nothing is hidden from the view of the health care professionals, the various sensors of machines and the sting of needles.

5. The cancer patient needs friends and family to stay in touch. The need for support and love does not end with the first few days or weeks. Cancer treatment takes months. Don’t lose touch with your friend or family member. A card or call two or three months from diagnosis will mean just as much if not more than one sent soon after diagnosis. Don’t worry about not knowing what to say. Just knowing you care will bring joy and peace to the cancer patient.

6. Cancer patients need answers. They need to know how to make the right inquiries, where to find the answers. All the literature patients are given can be an overload. Read what you want to read — what pertains to you. Digest that before taking on something else. It’s helpful to make notes when consulting with health care professionals that you can refer to. If you forget something or need clarification, use that telephone. Someone will assist you in finding what you need.

These are just some of the things on a cancer patient’s “wish list.” I talked to oncology nurses, cancer patients and used my own experiences to make this list. If you know someone with cancer, look over the list again and see how you might be able to make a difference in a friend’s life.

Cyndi Pratt is circulation bookkeeper at the Washington Times-Herald. She is a 15 year survivor of breast cancer and has recently been diagnosed with breast cancer again. She says, “God is on my side. Going through cancer diagnosis and treatment is just a speed bump, it may slow me down for a bit, but it’s not going to stop me.”

Don't be anxious..

It’s been a while since my last post here, i was quite busy these past days because we’re helping our relatives. They were victims of typhoon Ondoy wherein they lost their houses and belongings. They lived with us temporarily but after a week we already look for homes for rent where they can transfer and start building their lives again. Now they have relocated to their new apartment and with some help from relatives abroad they were able to buy important furniture and other house essentials to start anew. They say with God’s help they found strength and the will to survive.

How about you are you anxious about your situation right now? Don’t lose hope ! remember God’s promises, you can surely count on them.

“Be strong and courageous. Be not afraid or dismayed… for there is… with us… our God to help us… (2 Chronicles 32:7-8 )

“I will rescue you… declares the Lord; you will not be handed over to those you fear” (Jeremiah 39:17 )

“Fear not… When you pass through the waters… they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned… (Isaiah 43:1-2 )

“Be not afraid or dismayed… for the battle is not yours, but God’s” (2 Chronicles 20:15 )

“In the world you have… distress and frustration; but… [take courage; be confident, certain, undaunted]… I have… [deprived it of power to harm you and have conquered it for you]” (John 16:33 )

“I will lie down in peace and sleep, for though I am alone… Lord, you will keep me safe” (Psalm 4:8 )

“The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them; He delivers them from all their troubles” (Psalm 34:17)

“You will be secure, because there is hope; you will look about you and… rest in safety” (Job 11:18 )

“They will fight against you, but… not prevail… for I am with you to save… and deliver you” (Jeremiah 15:20 )

“Our fears for today… worries about tomorrow… even the powers of hell… nothing in all creation will… separate us from the love of God” (Romans 8:38-39 )

“Those who know your name will trust in You, for You… have never forsaken those who seek You” (Psalm 9:10)

“The Lord… watches over you… stands beside you… keeps you from all harm… watches over your life… keeps watch… as you come and go” (Psalm 121:5-8 )

No calorie, fat free meal

Remember my post about The strangest diet? Until now i really can’t believe it’s true. How can a man eat metals and still survive? Well, I’m sure there is some supernatural powers involved in it and that explains how he survived. That man will never worry on getting fat and definitely he won’t be needing any fat burner because of his no calorie, fat free, and no nutrients type of meal!^_^
